Settled in the 1680s by Welsh Quakers, Bala and Cynwyd were once two separate towns that merged together for the convenience of the post office and rail line. Located along the western edge of Philadelphia and separated by the old post road (US Rt 1 also called City Line Avenue) Bala Cynwyd is a quintessential town with quaint shops and old-tree lined streets.
This community supports a healthy balance where people live, work and play. Several media outlets, including channel 10 NBC is headquartered here, plus local AM and FM radio stations broadcast from this corner of the Main Line. The Bala Cynwyd Shopping Center is home to shops such as Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue, boutique pet store, Michaels craft store, ACME, LA Fitness and several chain restaurants.
